About Us
Welcome to the Neo Computing Lab, led by Dr. Jafar Shamsi within the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary.
Our lab builds brain-inspired computing systems designed to address the energy-intensive nature and fundamental limitations of modern AI. By bridging the gap between neuroscience and engineering, our research spans the entire neuromorphic stack—from developing brain-inspired models and algorithms to designing custom, energy-efficient hardware. By rethinking representation, memory, control, and computation across these layers, we develop integrated neuromorphic systems for real-world deployment in biomedical wearables, assistive technologies, and edge AI devices.
